You'd want a flag on the loadstate method which skips tool updates and the API callback if you do it that way.

For the record, I once looked into using `Span` for this, but the problem goes deeper than ApiHawk.

This is just the mid-frame pausing feature, though I suppose that's not actually on here so ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
