NOTE: Because Yoast does not detect the image we do not output the primaryimageofPage schema, if that is the only image on the page, Google will not use the image from the field as a thumbnail.

I would guess this issue manifests itself in the lack of Image/Media count in the sitemap(s) too. The one workaround that can be found on the internet for the sitemap Image/Media is not working correctly.

I'm closing this issue due to inactivity and not having this request more often. The file field type is more or less a field type to be used to have attachments or downloads to show a link to download those, not to show an image on a post or page visually. In that case, using the image field is a more suitable field.
