Non-image Unattached Media Does Not Appear In Sitemap

What did you expect to happen?

All unattached media items would appear in the media sitemap.

What happened instead?

Only unattached images appear. User has multiple pdf files they want listed in the media sitemap.

How can we reproduce this behavior?

  1. Upload a pdf file through Admin > Media
  2. Enable media sitemap through Admin > SEO > XML Sitemaps > Post Types

Technical info

  • WordPress version: 4.7
  • Yoast SEO version: 4.0.2

@jdevalk Should we add non-image media to the media sitemap too? Or should it be an 'image-only' sitemap?

Specifically for PDF files I'm inclined to say yes. Not every type of file is useful in search, but adding PDFs automatically would be in line with core's recent work. However, PDFs are not images. They're full blown documents, so they should be added as separate URLs, which probably means a bit more work.

Hi Ihave in my website http://www.guitarart.co.il/ hundreds of pages that contain guitar chords for example http://www.guitarart.co.il/eng_accord/C/California%20Dreaming.pdf Those pages must be on sitemap must be.... I tried to enable all kind of check boxes in the settings but the sitemap still doesn't recognize those pages

Hi I still don't have solution for my problem This is my sitemap http://www.guitarart.co.il/sitemap_index.xml that was created by YOAST but it doesn't include many pages with unattached pdf from this page
http://www.guitarart.co.il/chords for example this page http://www.guitarart.co.il/eng_accord/D/Dream%20A%20Little%20Dream%20Of%20Me.pdf is not included and there are many many more
