How to find device MAC address to tie to openLDAP records

Open siliconhippy opened this issue 3 years ago • 0 comments

Hi again !

This question pertains to MeshCentral integration with various other packages, e.g. openLDAP ( or Light LDAP, LLDAP.)

( Questions #1-5 become redundant if openLDAP already has a complete record including device ID as appears in MeshCentral display.

But please let me know with some explanation ! )

---- > How do we find in MeshCentral a particular device MAC ID, and is there a way to automate search against an openLDAP database?

It will be nice to see openLDAP creds ( user, pass, MAC ID(s) ) tied to the devices display in MeshCentral, e.g., as device tag. This means that we now have tied a specific device ( Linux or Windows) to an openLDAP entry which will facilitate maintenance and troubleshooting of devices by identifying devices as openLDAP users.

For instance I (admin) might have:

  1. A Linux or Windows machine with some device name / password required to log into the machine (with device name appearing in MeshCentral display. )

  2. This device cred might be different than the openLDAP user cred. E.g., openLDAP is set for specific applications.

  3. So for remote troubleshooting a particular machine ( via MeshCentral log in), I might be called in as admin by a particular user for machine troubleshooting.

  4. Here it might be simple then to look up the machine MAC ID in the openLDAP user record, and then tie it to the same MAC ID as for a particular machine.

  5. If yes, I, admin, can now identify the particular machine for logging in and troubleshooting.

  6. It would be nice anyway if the device MAC ID ( or openLDAP username) could appear as the device tag in MeshCentral display.
