Request for AMT Reset and AMT Power Off for group actions & meshctrl

Open aztlanla opened this issue 2 years ago • 18 comments

Hi, we would like the ability to do an AMT Reset or AMT Power off from group actions and/or from the meshctrl cmdline tool.

Currently, only wake works using DevicePower from meshctrl and group actions. We are not using the agent on our hosts, just AMT.

We can do this from MeshCentral going to host | Intel AMT tab | Connect | System Status | Power Actions | Reset

Thanks

Hi. I just added Intel AMT on, off and reset to MeshCtrl "devicepower" command, this will be in MeshCentral v1.0.28.

Note that when using Intel AMT only (no agent) you can do wake (on) and power off and reset from the group action. MeshCentral should automatically using Intel AMT to perform these actions when you select "Wake-up devices", "Power off devices" or "Reset devices".

Let me know if it works.

Awesome, thank you so much. I'm only seeing 1.0.27 under Latest version, when will 1.0.28 be available?

v1.0.28 will probably be release later today.

@Ylianst The additional meshctrl commands in this issue aren't in the new docs, and I'd love to see this and other information you provide in issues be proactively included in the docs to fill in holes in the knowledge.

How can I help you with this so you can include the information yourself?

Hi @Ylianst, we upgraded to 1.0.28 and the group actions don't work. For group action we have power off devices, reset devices, and wake devices.

But the new MeshCtrl commands --amtoff, --amton, and --amtreset do work, they also work from the web gui when you go into the host and click on actions and we see Intel AMT reset, Intel AMT Power On, and Intel AMT Power Off.

Thanks

Hi again Ylianst, after further use we noticed that when you go into any device and then go to the Intel AMT tab, the Connect button no longer works. It doesn't connect to any of our AMT hosts.

I've noticed this as well so I have went back to the stable version same thing happens in 1.0.27 as well.

Unfortunately the group power off function is not working, has anyone else found a fix or another version that works?

We are still having this issue as well.

@aztlanla if the intel AMT options to reset/poweroff are working, then great, please can you close this issue if the normal poweroff/reset options arent working, then please open a new issue! i want all issues seperated so its easier to track one issue at a time! thanks!

si458 avatar Dec 08 '23 18:12 si458

@si458 This ticket is for the group actions AMT Reset or AMT Power off and those are still not working. Thanks

aztlanla avatar Dec 14 '23 23:12 aztlanla

@aztlanla right ok no worries, sadly i have 0 computers that support AMT, so i cannot test/fix this issue, but ill have a look at code in background incase its something very basic/simple!

EDIT: after checking the sourcecode, the 'Power off devices' and 'Reset devices' are just standard poweraction commands, they dont do any AMT power stuff, so we might need to add extra options to do AMT power stuff

si458 avatar Dec 15 '23 09:12 si458

@aztlanla can you check if meshctrl works? MeshCtrl DevicePower --off --id 'deviceid1,deviceid2' does the group action still not work? im assuming you are using the 'Power Off devices' when you tick different devices in the web ui and click 'group action'? can you also just update to 1.1.18 and try the power stuff too? i fixed very recently intel AMT devices where only showing an unknown power state, and now they should detect if they are actually turned off or in hibernete etc, which might fix your power issue

Ok, I'll check this week and reply back. Thanks
