embedded videos won't play
embedded youtube video doesn't work with ytc enabled. Any solution? chrome. Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit) Developer Version - Build #548
Same issue here. As a temporary fix you can disable the embed setting inside of YTC options. Go down to the "External Players" tab then uncheck "Enable Embeds". Not the best solution as it disables some nice features, but it's better than nothing.
Issue: All Embedded Video Playback Fails
All embedded videos appear to hang on "starting" state and never successfully begin playback, despite the same embedded video playing successfully if the "play on youtube" overlay is clicked to open and play un-embedded.
Workaround: Steps to (Re)Enable All Embedded Video Playback
Open your personal YTC settings on the youtube.com main page and change to the following (TRUE=Checked, FALSE=Unchecked):
- Click on the "External Players" option in the left pane
- Enable Embeds = TRUE
- Write Method = "Test 5"
- DASH Playback = TRUE
- Player Type = "Default"
- Auto-Hide bar = "Default"
- Use default auto-play = FALSE
- Prevent auto-play = FALSE
- Prevent auto-buffering = FALSE
- Close YTC and refresh your embedded video page - click on the video to start playback, and find that all embedded video playback should again be working!
Additional Information
This appears to be an issue specific to the auto-playback / auto-buffer differences with embedded and hopefully can be tweaked but despite this workaround appearing to allow auto-playback for embedded videos, in my testing the videos in question still required manual intervention to begin the playback, as originally desired, anyway.
Just a quick follow-up on this - I should have done a bit more exhaustive testing as I believed through very quick testing that both prevent auto-play AND auto-buffer needed to now be set to FALSE as a workaround. It does work however if, like me, you become VERY annoyed that the embedded now must all auto-play if they are set to......I have good news. As goofy as this is (which is why I never thought to test it this way) ONLY auto-BUFFER needs to be set to FALSE in this whole thing. You CAN leave auto-play for embedded set to false and as long as auto-buffer is set to true, I just re-tested and it's the best of both worlds - yes, it now sits and friggin auto-buffers over my bandwidth the ten friggin embedded videos on a media page, but at least now NONE are playing unless I click one.
Looks like until maia-yt is a reality (can't wait), this is the best it will be (while knock on wood it works at all) until the new MD is forced on us all. Hope this helps!
Same issue here. Used @CollinChaffin's workaround as a temp solution.
