FTP/SMB support
It would allow network installs.
Just piping in to say this is the only thing preventing me from using Goldleaf!
Id like to be able to use SFTP as i perfer it to plain old ftp.
I am on old tinfoil till goldleaf supports network install in any way. I know USB is faster, but requires to find the cable and connect them, so I still prefer the wireless connection even it is slower.
This might be done, seems more reasonable than raw network installing.
Please include sftp as well

Just adding one more vote for this: having SMB support would make my switch significantly more usable. No need to get a separate PC out every time I need to install something and no duplicate network traffic (NAS to PC and PC to Switch). Just directly browse to the NAS's SMB share and install from there.
You probably know already, in which case I apologize, but implementation may be easier than expected. There is a library called libdsm which:
- Is small and in C
- Does not bring the baggage/dependencies of Samba - on the contrary it seems quite self contained
So it should be reasonable to include without pulling hair.
Your NAS probably supports FTP.

This one has my vote too. My NAS is waiting eagerly for this..
Although I would ask for NFS instead of SMB, as it's way more performant/efficient and possibly more stable. It's currently the way I have set up all media center devices around the home.
On most NAS units NFS is offered natively, plus on windows there are plenty of free/opensource NFS (server application) solutions that can do the job. Samba should just die a horrible death.
My favorite is WebDAV over https for now. Or just plain http/https? Just launch the integrated internet browser and redirect nsp-downloads to the installation?
+1 for FTP, NFS or SMB install! It's the only thing right now keeping me from changing from tinfoil to goldleaf.
+1 I'm waiting too for FTP or SMB
Yea i'd like that too, i have a linux server to use for downloads and install via FTP/SFTP from since my local internet is really slow
I think , Goldleaf should support SFTP first , it's security and could use via internet.
SMB guys is what need and the install over smb all will wonderful after that
