I have also encountered this problem, even after uninstalling and reinstalling Xcodes via brew.

Baseless speculation: is this related to the Homebrew cask moving from xcodes to xcodes-app?

Speculation: When I downloaded Xcode 26 beta 1, it put the .xip file in my Downloads folder; now I'm trying Xcode 26 beta 2, and the .xip isn't in my Downloads folder. Did the location for the download change, and could that also be causing the problem?

Version

  • OS: 15.5
  • Xcodes: 2.4.2 (31)
  • Homebrew: 4.5.8
/opt/homebrew/Caskroom/xcodes-app/2.4.2b31 (34.7MB)

I had success by going to ~/Library/Application Support/com.robotsandpencils.XcodesApp/ and deleting what appeared to be cached downloads of a .xip and an Xcode binary—after I did that, I installed 26 Beta 2 fine. I think the issue might have something to do with that caching?

Here says mac os 15.4 can't run older versions seems...

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/69994916/how-can-i-run-older-xcode-version-on-new-macos-version

Important:

This does not work on macOS 15.4

Do not update to macOS 15.4 if you want to keep using old Xcode

Change the paths to OLD/NEW Xcodes and run the script. The script will change the build version of the old Xcode to the new one, run it, and restore it. The script needs to be run once; after that, Xcode can be opened via double-click.
