Create a logo for XLibre
Hello! I think this project needs a good logo!
Logos can be changed-out to fit whatever is in style, but right now I think this project needs a logo that's crisp and clear, something that is difficult for the greedy corporate-planted operatives to lie about, or villainize with made-up false info.
Here's my take:
Alternate versions:
That's my best take. Feel free to use it, edit it, or trash it. With enough people someone will probably come up with something better! I just want the tech I use everyday to have a firm foundation. I want to be happy about new versions, instead of dreading new versions, I want the future to be bright!
I bet someone here can create a better one though. So feel free to hijack this issue with a better logo!
Here's my take on an XLibre logo
Final versions:
I think that XLibre as a continuation of projects based on an older codebase, should have more eternal style, but at the same time that will look good in our time as well, so I used some retro references to implement this, based on the experience of other designers
Horizontal full-length variation with the @ilmostro0110 color scheme
My variations (more contrast*)
*the black tone is darker and including a red color, not blue
The "X" Symbol
How it was designed?
I combined the original XOrg design, found the most suitable X symbol design, used the lettering with the Prata font, made a reverse italic version of it and combined it, then @ilmostro011 picked up the color scheme and I did additional little things in the design like cutouts and the position of the circlePrevious designs
First "X" flavorOr also simpler and closer to the original XOrg with the horizontal full-length variation
The "X Window System" flavor

This one is my favourite:
Some proposals from Prishtina the capital of Kosovo (XK)
- Moto: x11Libre - Displaying the future, freely
Done some changes to the one i originally submitted.
Some logos: https://imgur.com/a/xlibre-logo-proposals-zWI2X5X
but unironically if you're going to suggest a logo do SVG format. Probably using open source fonts. if you are going to use letters. etc.
a derivative over @sah4pok's work
these are designs made by Waff
these are designs by @linuxcel
ooh fun! not a designer at all, but i hope you guys like my attempt :D got an svg if needed.
alt:
A try of some ASCII art:
__ _
\ \ //
\ \ // __ __
\/%/ / / / /
/%/\ / / <> / /_ ___ ___
// \ \ / /_ / / / _ / / _/ /^_/
// \_\ /___/ /_/ /___/ /_/ /__/
(Under CC0. The CC-BY license is preferred, but totally optional)
I think this logo is more canonical

As long as it doesn't look like Twitter's new X logo, which looks too much like Xorg's! :D
@metux Does github discussions do polls lol. How about we just put up all the designs and pick one on a poll?
since really zero people have provided svgs, most logos here are useless.

I think SVG makes sense in the final stage when it would make sense to redraw them from scratch. For example, I initially have an SVG, but it's not of the best quality because it's just a concept.
I prefer linuxcel's and @sah4pok's contributions the most. Something true to the original design that demonstrates "yeah this is XOrg but better" instead of "generic 2000s or 2020s tech marketing".
Hmm, is XLibre an organization? If it's something else, IMHO, the "O" in the logo isn't welcome. My 0.001 cents, of course.

I meant the github "organization" page that this repo is under. I didn't mean to call xlibre a corporation lol. Sorry if I offended you @fredvs
Um, sorry, but that was just my opinion on some of the icons here, not at all against a comment. And as for the choice, it's so subjective...
This is a modified version of a vector image from Sven on Wikipedia Commons:
Took a couple of hours, but I think it makes a great icon! (Dark theme needs to be disabled, though)
There are some really nice logos ITT, however some of them are basically invisible on dark background. In 2025 logos must be visible on both light and dark backgrounds because they are not just for your github repo or website, they are also used by press websites, on social media and so on. My suggestion would be to add second version of your logos for dark backgrounds or maybe you can play with colors/outlines to solve this. Anyway, it's fantastic how active this community is so early after the fork and I'm really surprised to see many really cool looking logos already. It will be tough decision to pick the "best" one.
yeah I agree that XLibre has no "O" from Org, so maybe the logo should not have the circle on it.
I just edited my logo again to be more black background-friendly and even added some extra things. Hope y'all enjoy!
I quite like the one @AndersonTorres posted. very simple, retains the classic X11 logo, doesn't include the 'O' of XOrg, and neatly integrates the L of Libre. Between that and @eduardflorinescu 's version, it's a tough decision.

I like @eduardflorinescu's one the most. While basic in design, it has wings that show the true freedom that FOSS is supposed to be.

I created that one. I also tried it with the other logo I submitted. I'd need to do some cleaning up to provide an actual svg for this, but I wanted to put this out there too. The svg for the XL logo itself is in this thread already.

@sahpok's small middle logo has a white outline on the black. So the black bg problem may be mitigated by this.
This color change to brightgrey may also be a solution
Also I think the logos with sharp edges look too much like a certain former birdie corporation. So another point to @sah4pok's design.
Can we get an svg? @sah4pok
Can you DM me somewhere? I don't think it's convenient to discuss all the details of the process here (comment by comment)
