Fresh local install not working

Can you describe the problem and bug in more detail? Can't install locally using the instructions from GETTING-STARTED.md.

How can we replicate the issue? clone the repo and try to follow the instructions and install. Some dependencies from package.json aren't supported with the mentioned node version 10.x. When using a supported node version (>12.x), make fails with gyp ERR! stack Error:

This is currently expected to fail because we have not made one of the core libraries public yet. We have on the map to public and the private parts out, but haven't gotten to it thus far. We have a couple of high importance feature updates on the horizon and hopefully get to that soon after.
I'll have to update the docs.
