Restoring small bookmark database from Google Drive is slow

Open skdutta-ga opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

I am just trying out this tool and imported by bookmarks into it (a few hundreds) and then backed it up to Google Drive. So fat so good.

Now when I try to restore on a different machine, it takes a long time and fails.

I regularly do git pull and push with lots of data, no problems...is this tool sending gzip files across the systems or just send in plan/encrypted form?

That's odd. If you backed it up to GDrive the download speed should be what your network affords, and a little bit of time for integrating. A couple hundred items should not take more than a few minutes.

I assume there may be some corrupted data in it, which makes the whole thing even more worrisome.

When it fails can you check what the error logs give you? Do you know how to get to the background console of Memex? If not which browser are you using, so i can explain how to get there?

I looked into the GDrive and found that the memex data is taking 87MB, not sure why it is taking so much space. Is it storing the full text of the bookmark pages? (if so can I switch it off?)

Also, my network speed here is 75mb/s - 100mb/s download.

I am using it in Microsoft Chromium edge browser and installed the chrome extension. I also tried with the Chrome browser which also takes about 10 to 15 minutes

I checked the developer console (inspect) and did not find anything suspicious.

Please let me know how to get to the background console.
