Improvising Patterns Directory - Add option for patterns variations.
Creating a pattern in the WordPress patterns directory is easy. Almost every WordPress user can create it. But the design might not be good or the pattern will be too basic.
I would like to share an idea so that the basic pattern can be enhanced and no matter how basic the original pattern is, contributors can add variations to the patterns and me it powerful.
- Add the option to Add variations to the single patterns page
For example, if I found a pattern in the patterns directory and feel that I can make better version of it. Instead of creating new pattern, they can simply click on the Add variations and the copy original pattern will be created. The new author can make the changes and submit it.
- Review the pattern variation
Like the current method, the added pattern variation will be reviewed and set live.
- The approved pattern will appear below the main pattern in the pattern directory.

Are "variations" just related patterns? Perhaps this is in line with the idea around pattern collections: https://github.com/WordPress/pattern-directory/issues/549
