Math inline format: if you make a selection of latex first, use that

Here's how inline editing works at the moment:

It works well enough, but unlike the other inline formats, it doesn't work on selections, it opens the popover and lets you type the latex. If you could type the latex directly in the text, then mark it as latex to have it render, would be a nice improvement.

I'm curious what you think of this, @ellatrix. I know parts of this have already been implemented.

Yes, some improvements sound nice, like select and click format. Could we open separate tickets for it? This big ticket with some parts already done is a bit overwhelming.

Some things I don't think we can do: editing inline sounds nice, but you lose the preview (which imo is essential to have). Also every time we do something like that, we will cause layout shifts when you blur. Think about when you're editing a matrix, which takes up way more space in code than when rendered.

Thank you for looking. The style options have been addressed, and since you argue (and there's precedence in other latex apps) that the live preview while you're typing in the popover is both an expectation and best practice, that is a non issue as well.

So instead of opening new issues, I renamed and trimmed this one to just be the remaining issue, which we can then either address or close, with no urgency!
