Abha discussed with Matteo at WCEU. Suggest a zoom call to assist and progress?
Hi @abhansnuk and @nalininsbs,
Yes, maybe having a Zoom call could work good. The video is ready, there is no reason to wait more. Links:

Please let me know a time when you can talk.
Thanks, Matteo
As recapped elsewhere, questions have been shared to be able to move this video forward in previous months and at WordCamp Europe. We are progressing this together, so not far now to completion! I have pulled together the main items in the notes on this in summary below.
Thank you @matteospi for confirming today:
- both the captions he wrote and translated have been checked by GTE lasacco. This includes the text for the new screens relating to the Italian Slack
- subtitles have been added in the relevant format
To be confirmed on a video call or can be resolved on this GitHub card:
- the watermark and company name for the software used for editing have been removed the latest version of the video Matteo created. I can still see the software company name on the first link above. @matteospi is it the second link that is the updated video? Thank you.
- if the changes to the Make instructions have been incorporated into this video (see discussion last year with Hugh and Olga - can we add the link Olga/ @meherbala ?)
- the additional steps on Make were to be documented in English to help incorporate into a new version of the onboarding videos being explored with Learn WordPress and Polyglots
- any other queries
Once pending queries are resolved, it will be possible for a final review of the video.
- Final review of video file and compression
- Final version can then be uploaded to YouTube, and the relevant settings made. Laura and Matteo's WordPress IDs will be needed, and all those who have assisted on this video - Mark/ Abha/ Meher /Chris can assist with this when it is ready.
- Uploaded and labelled on Learn WordPress together with any other ones that are waiting - Meher had offered to assist with this previously.
General As documented:
- we are no longer creating translations of videos in this way, and there are changes on joining which need to be incorporated together with additional Learn WordPress resources. Some of this is also waiting GlotPress changes and process updates for Learn WordPress, which will make this easier to create.
- in addition, there is ongoing work on the guidance on microphone usage following a review of draft videos in general and requests for help with sound. A few contributors have offered to assist and help with completing this. Some of those who had volunteered to make voiceovers had difficulties with sound and this guidance will assist future videos and other videos too.
- additional guidance on placing subtitles and number of words per screen have also been requested.
In the meantime, Marketing and Polyglot team members have been assisting those who started translations during the changes or submitted drafts after the change in process, to complete their videos.
Thank you to everyone who has given time to help in the videos, translations, and collaborating.
Hi everyone, and thanks for your patience.
- Correct, it's the second video the one without subtitles and the logo. If is really really needed, I can try to figure out a way to enter subtitles without the watermark but it could create some difficulties.
- Olga told me about some changes, and these are already integrated.
- Not sure to follow you. Olga changed and I just followed her change.
- Let me know all the queries.
Hello @matteopsi I may be not looking at the correct file. I am looking at the second video. I can still see the watermark on the video. Can anyone else see a version without the video editing software watermark? We can not use a version with a company name in.
@OlaIola is also going to review the video and will update this card. Thank you @abhansnuk for liaising with @OlaIola on this.
Once all completed, we have a number of people ready to assist with uploading it and putting the relevant embed on Learn WordPress. Thank you everyone.
I have readded Matteo to this card so that he can see updates more easily.
I just wanted to confirm that I've double-checked the translation @matteospi worked on and he has adapted the text from the script beautifully. There is one additional element including clicking on the privacy policy that was likely not included in the English script because of GDPR requirements that he has correctly added here.
I am unaware of any documentation that says videos we use cannot contain a watermark. I know part of the open source philosophy encourages using other free software so I wonder if it's absolutely necessary to make any changes to remove the watermark? Additionally according to the terms of veed.io keeping the watermark should not arise in a conflict of interest as the content meets these criteria
a worldwide, revocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence to use, reproduce and display that user-generated content in connection with the services provided by our Applications; and a worldwide, revocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence for other users or partners to use the content in accordance with the functionality of our Applications.
https://www.veed.io/terms-of-use [Section 11]
@OlaIola if you have any notes to add to this card that would be great, but I would encourage us to move towards a speedy resolution of this matter and do what it takes to bring more awareness of WordPress in language to the Italian audience and future community members who might need this video.
Thank you @jpantani for finding out about the Veed licence and confirming we are okay to use this video with the watermark. We do need to check in terms of accessibility if the watermark causes any accessibility issues. Do you know if it distorts the video or screenshots at all?
@meherbala has agreed to upload the video to YouTube once this has been checked (or to assist @OlaIola if she needs in doing so. She will pass onto the Learn WP team if the watermark has any issue for them.
We are almost there. Well done everyone.
@matteospi @nalininsbs @jpantani @abhansnuk - please confirm if the below link is correct to be added to YouTube
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xy0nGuVmAoL7eiSvZJtd546k3eT67eW6/view?usp=drivesdk
Once someone confirms the same I will upload it.
CC: @OlaIola
@matteospi and @jpantani can you please confirm the link for @meherbala . Thank you.
@abhansnuk can you follow up the above please.
Before this card is closed, need a new ticket to check with the accessibility team for any future video editing on the watermark and accessibility.
@nalininsbs @meherbala confirming this link "Iscrizione Slack WP" is the correct one. Thanks.
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay.
Yeah, the indicated link is the correct one and the usernames are:
Matteo Spirandelli (Author of the video localization): https://profiles.wordpress.org/matteospi/ Jonathan Pantani (Helper and reviewer): https://profiles.wordpress.org/jpantani/ Laura Sacco (GTE for translation review): https://profiles.wordpress.org/lasacco/
I was wondering If a localized YouTube description could be useful to us. In case let me know.
Thanks, and let's do the last mile! :) Matteo
Thank you @matteospi . A localized description for YouTube would be welcome. We had a standard template for this, however, for speed @abhansnuk could you and @meherbala add the text or send it to Matteo once you have published it.
Thank you everyone!
Today or tomorrow I’ll send you a translation of the description so it could contain the text in both languages.
This an update video which takes you through the steps of setting up a WordPress.org profile and joining the Make WordPress Slack ahead of a Contributor event. This version contains a commentary in Italian.
It has been created with the Make WordPress Marketing Team, and is part of a series of onboarding guides and videos produced across this open source community to help new contributors get started. https://github.com/WordPress/contributor-day-handbook We are publishing a series of videos with different language voiceovers and captions to assist Make WordPress Teams and Contributor Events, and most importantly to help would-be contributors get started. The video series will be moved to WordPress.tv in the future.
Thanks to Mark Smallman, Abha Thakor, and Olga Gleckler for work on this series, to Matteo Spirandelli for the translation, captions, recording, and synchronizing the VoiceOver, to Jonathan Pantani for the help provided and to the Italian General Translation Editor Laura Sacco for checking the translation.
@abhansnuk @meherbala can you approve this script please? Then I can create the Italian version and you can keep both in the description. This allow also non-english speakers to be able to read it.
Thanks.
That reads fine to me. It just needs to say 'Meher Bala' after 'Abha's name' please.
Thank you for doing this Matteo.
@nalininsbs instead of Olga you mean? Or just adding another name?
Could you please add Meher's name. Thank you.
Okay. You’ll get the translation by tomorrow (Italian time zone)

Hi @nalininsbs @matteospi @jpantani @abhansnuk @OlaIola
The video is uploaded and made live on YT.
Here is the link: https://youtu.be/pdLySC2NvMU
Let me know if any changes are needed.
@meherbala If I send you the Italian version of the description can you add it keeping both the versions (English and Italian)? If yes I’ll translate it.
@matteospi yes I can add the Italian version after the English version.
Please do translate and add it here and I will copy and paste it into YT.
Okay. I’ll give you that within tomorrow.
That’s the description in Italian. I’ve re-written some parts to align the syntax to the Italian language and let that to look more local.
I have added the Italian description to the YT video first and then followed by an English translation.
