Create xsession entry for plasma, openbox

Are the desktop entries from the repo in its current state supposed to work? Would like to have a lightdm entry for i3 and one for i3 with gpu enabled. I tried adapting nvidia-xrun-openbox.desktop from the repo into Exec=/usr/bin/nvidia-xrun /usr/bin/i3 but this results in a black screen for a few seconds when logging in after which it returns to lightdm. Any help would be appreciated.
