For errors, warning signs are used:
I suggest changing icon
to icon
Thank you for the suggestion. However, the error icon is already used for a different purpose. Please see section 2.2 "File and folder icons" in the manual: https://manual.winmerge.org/en/Compare_dirs.html
For now, to avoid confusion, we plan to keep the current icon.

Yes, looking at the descriptions for the icons, I have a few more comments:
- If item can't be compared because of another program has locked the file, then it is a warning.
- If item can't be compared because of hardware/software failure made the file inaccessible, then it is an error.
- If WinMerged did not finish comparing, because of hardwre/software malfunction, then it is an error.
- If WinMerge did not finish comparing because the user aborted the job, then it is a warning.
Nevertheless, if an issue is reported as "[ERROR] ...", then WinMerge has considered it as an error and needs the error icon. Inconsistency in the app's GUI creates user confusion. Having said that, in my case because of hardware failure, reporting as "[ERROR] ..." is correct and using warning icon is incorrect.
