error: the file cannot be accessed by the system

This error is popping up all the time now. On my local workstation where I have full rights to all folders and files.

Can you please check if the files you are trying to compare can be opened in any application other than WinMerge? If you can't open the files in any application other than WinMerge, then it's probably not a WinMerge problem.

These are files I use every day. If it helps, Beyond Compare works perfectly.

• What type of files are causing the error?
• Are the files that cause the error located in a special folder such as OneDrive? If so, what is the path to that file?
• Does the same error occur when you restart Windows?
• Does the error occur when you compare folders? Or does the error occur when comparing files?
• Does the error occur when you open the files in Notepad?

Isn't your problem the same as https://github.com/WinMerge/winmerge/issues/1024?
