Invalid file!

I back up the sidebar widgets when I change them, and now today after upgrading to WordPress 5.1, suddenly, all of the sidebars are gone. I went to import the most recent backup, which was done on Jan 8, 2019 and I get the following error message: “Invalid File! Please upload Widget Options exported data.” Now what? Update: I pasted the json into the JSON Formatter and Validator site, and it validated successfully.
