Right click on a hop should open a menu with different tools like whois

well.. good idea ;) This is how my unpublished version from April 2014 looks like: Image of WinMTR

I sadly didn't had time to finalize all things and publish it yet.. But basically there's a context menu ;) (those "www" open a web-page in your default browser and "ping" opens ping.exe)

Any suggestions though? What did you have in mind?

That's quite it.

For the whois part, the integration of jwhois in a window would be a much better aproach (you wouldn't have to leave your software)

which jwhois did you mean? The one I've found seems to be an awful solution. It's not only primarily made for Linux and not really suited for Windows use, but is also quite outdated and doesn't support new gTLD's If any, it would need to be an autonomous system that doesn't necessarily require updates to it to work
