Acer CB315-2HT Ubuntu 25.04 Aleena no sound
Describe the bug
No sound. After running script shows device as Pro Audio built-in 2 outputs and 2 inputs. Selecting Pro Audio or Pro Audio 7 under output makes no difference.
EDIT: forgot to mention it's the complete firmware from mrchromebox
Previously you had helped me by pointing to a special kernel a couple of years ago (stoney 6.6) but the files we went through there are all included in Ubuntu 25.04.

There is a new patched kernel you need. Install the debs in https://chrultrabook.sakamoto.pl/stoneyridge-kernel/ubuntu-6.14.0-15.15_all/
Thanks. I downloaded and installed all 3 files. Ran initramfs and then update-grub. Selecting the stoney kernel entry from the grub menu just blanks the screen and then shows the grub menu right away, Doesn't take more than a second. Selecting the stoney recovery entry from the grub menu shows text about initramfs and says must load a kernel first and hangs. Have to physically power off and then back on. Selecting the recovery entry first i behaves just the opposite.
EDIT: just found there is no system.map file for stoney kernel in /boot. Does this make a difference?
Please let me know any information you need from me.
Thanks again very much!
ran update-initramfs -c -k all again and noticed a warning it kicked out:
W: Kernel configuration /boot/config-6.6.16-stoney is missing, zstd compression support (CONFIG_RD_ZSTD) cannot be checked and is assumed to be available
could this cause the file to not be loadable?
That warning is for a 6.6 kernel but the one in the link I sent is 6.14
Thank you!! I thought I needed the old one as well since nothing was showing in the grub menu that said "stoney". I didn't know the packages installed with a generic kernel name. My mistake! Thanks again for the help and for getting this all together and working for linux on chromebooks!
Sound is working now?
For the most part yes. I say that as after powering it off and letting sit again for several hours this morning suddenly no sound and no devices at all listed under hardware in sound settings and aplay -l said no devices found. What I found really strange was after about 30 minutes the Pro play (or whatever they were ca;lled) showed up again but not the correct sound and no sound played. I booted up on the kernel included with ubuntu 25.04, deleted the system map etc. for 6.14 from /boot, then used package manager to remove the 3 installed downloaded packages, ran update-initramfs again and update grub and rebooted to be sure only the 25.04 was shown in the menus and booted. I then reinstalled the 3 downloaded packages and rebooted and sound is working again at least for now. I suppose it's not as simple at all, but is there any chance you have a script or something I could use to update a new kernel as they are release in ubuntu? I obviously know nothing at all about any of this so thank you again!
I installed the three debs, rebooted, and ran the script, then rebooted again but I am still having dummy output and no audio input. Is there a proper guide for this? I got the same model, but I'm on Linux Mint instead. (edit: I just realized I need 25.04 at a minimum for this to work.) This is what I'm going to do today. I'll report back after. Step 1) Ubuntu Cinnamon 25.04. Step 2) Install the debs in https://chrultrabook.sakamoto.pl/stoneyridge-kernel/ubuntu-6.14.0-15.15_all/ Step 3) Reboot. Step 4) If audio doesn't work already run chromebook-linux-audio script and reboot.
Update: works fine
