WYSIWYG Formatting, Mass Accessibility

I wrote something about this in another section but wanted to be sure this was considered. First off, I really love what you all are doing with the federated wiki, a powerful and elegant tool. Thank you for developing this! The implications of this software are pretty big as far as I am concerned.

I do hope you all consider integrating a WYSIWYG editor into the wiki. As much as the syntax does not seem difficult to some, it really is a barrier to entry for many potential users. Although this model has worked well for Wikipedia as a sort of quality censorship my hope is that "Smallest -Federated-Wiki" will be a wiki for all people.

Could the WYSIWYG editor be developed and added to a fork., if you all don't want to develop this feature, and still be compatible with other wikis in the federation?

Are there programmatic restriction preventing this?

Thanks.

I do hear you, and this is important.

I've seen some nice things done with the HTML5 content editable mechanism. That seems to be the place to start. I've been meaning to do some research here and offer some direction but have been distracted.

My simple understanding is that content editable would make reasonable html. I'd like to separate plain text and html. Right now one can slide html into a plain text paragraph. Better to make that an html paragraph, no?

There's lots of opportunity. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks for being so open Ward. I will be following this project closely and hope to integrate it with elgg, a open source social networking platform, at some point.
