Windows NT on Performa 5400 (Alchemy): feasibility of porting within the maciNTosh project?
Hi everyone,
I’m following the maciNTosh project for porting Windows NT to PowerPC with great interest, and I was wondering if anyone has ever explored the possibility of running it on an OldWorld machine — specifically, on the Power Macintosh Performa 5400 (Alchemy chipset).
I have this machine still fully operational, with a PowerPC 603ev CPU at 180 MHz and 136 MB of RAM. I would be happy to provide tests, firmware dumps, boot logs, or anything else that could be helpful.
In my opinion, this project would make even more sense on these "classic" platforms, where alternative operating systems are quite limited (mostly Mac OS 7-9 and a few outdated Linux distros), compared to newer PowerPC systems like the G5, which already have working options such as macOS X or Linux PPC.
Has anyone ever tried something on Alchemy / Performa? Do you think it could be technically feasible to at least bootstrap the loader on this hardware?
Thanks a lot to anyone who can share ideas or information!
