Update existing install

Could you write a readme on how to update from one release to another without having to completely reinstall?

I assume it's probably already possible and mainly involves updating drivers but instructions would be appreciated.

Take the new drivers from nt\drivers.img (by modified date) and replace the existing files in your install, use something like winimage for that.
