Mp4 direct upload not playing nice with storage plugin

1. If i have storage plugin turned on with direct upload. The upload shows in KBs and does not show a thumbnail. If i go and click on the video it plays and then it updates to the correct file size and the thumbnail appears. It will not update if i do not click on the video.
2. If storage is turned off then the upload works perfectly, grabs a thumbnail and shows the correct file size.
3. Encoder uploads are not affected.
4. It has been like this for a long time. I have had to turn off storage for it to work which is not practical for me.
