Save states/Rom save fails when playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team

When I run Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, it works almost perfectly. However, when I attempt to save the ROM state, nothing happens and it produces a 0KB file. Also, when I save the game within the game, it always says "Save failed". I'm using the version of gpSP-nspire from ticalc.org, since I can't seem to successfully compile it from the repository. Any help would be great.
