Punctuation as pop-up on "." key

It would be great if some other punctuation could be accessed by long-press on the "." (period/full-stop/dot) key, similar to how accents are a pop-up on letters, and similar to the stock AOSP keyboard.

Digging into the source code: is this already fixed in the v2.0.0-alpha branch? Would a patch against only master be accepted? Would I only need to change the files in behe-keyboard/app/src/main/res/xml/ ?
