Email Missing from Profile - Sometimes

Sometimes the email address isn’t added to the site collection profile during registration. In these cases, the full claims UserID is entered as the Full Name too. The email address does make it into the SQL Membership database consistently.
Since profile entry sometimes works, it appears there’s some server performance or farm activity interplay involved, but I’ve not seen a pattern in account creation times that may lend a clue.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, or does anyone have any good suggestions what I might check?

One thing I have seen is to check if the My Sites user profile synchronization is turned on. If it is, the settings from My Sites will overwrite the local site collection profile. And if the My Sites profile doesn't have an email address, neither will
your site collection profile.
