This tool causes stuttering! WTF?
So I just bought Rx 480 from MSI, found this tool on reddit while doing research and downloaded to get ready when I install my drivers. I installed drivers, installed this tool, turned off LED's and started playing with wattman. I immediately noticed micro-stuttering in desktop and way lowered performance in benchmarks and games. I was like wtf is card faulty, started playing with clocks, older drivers and such but nothing helped. Opened task manager and noticed MSI Led Tool would jump to high CPU usage so as a troubleshoot I just killed the process, hey, what do you know, stuttering stopped and my fps increased!
How can it cause this if it only affects LED's?
I would say that you answered your own question. It seems Wattman and this tool conflict with each other. I don't own a MSI card, nor do I own an AMD card, so I'm also not capable of verifying what is going on. I'm however confident to say that this isn't a common issue as you are the first one to report this issue.
@nivinam i'm with this same issue, did you fix it? I have a msi gaming rx 480 8gb too,, i hate msi gaming app.
@fabiozanardi7 nope and as you can see at top dev doesn't care so you're stuck with leds on or shitty msi app.
Hello, any update about this problem? Thank's
I believe this project has been discontinued :'(
so sad, I opened a thread 2 days ago about an MSI R9 390 but after readnig all of this, now I dont thnk I'll ever get an answer :/
I have analysed the software, the part consuming CPU is from the library the tool uses for updating the LEDs.
If you want a version that won't use your CPU, you can download my build: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xtEpV_-Y7M4VZF587mYXa695_uuy4peB/view?usp=sharing
However, my "fix" disables any use of dynamic change. Any animation other than "no animation" won't work.
