Change the theme from dark to light.

Hi. Can change the theme from dark to light? And how?

I love this theme, I'd go as far as to say it's brilliant in it's simplicity. I also would like to switch to a light theme. I guess I can hack and copy dark-red.css and main.css Just wondering if you have any suggestions on making it easier to do. I guess the standard way would be Sass or Scss, I'm not a web developer, so I kind of love that the theme doesn't use these tools, though.

Anyway ideas are appreciated, maybe just find & replace on dark-red.css and main.css is the faster better way.

@cameronelliott,

This theme was originally planned to be dark-ish. Designing a light variant that looks consistent is not an easy task, unfortunately. As I recall, at the beginning of 2019 I spent a whole day developing a light version. The result did not suit me and I decided not to continue. In the end, I released dark versions of the color schemes only. Maybe I didn't have enough imagination or maybe it was not a very good day, I don't know.

Just wondering if you have any suggestions on making it easier to do.

Sorry, I cannot suggest anything specific. Common guesses:

  1. Try to design (edit) theme with dev tools before
  2. Try not to touch the theme's main.css
  3. Create a separate file (static/css/themes/light-*.css). Try to keep all changes in it.
  4. CSS variables???
  5. Most likely you will break compatibility with upstream and you will have to keep track of changes manually, especially CSS-related
  6. There is no "faster better way" to do this. Such types of tasks always take longer than you expect, even when you take this into account before start 😃

I wish everything would go smoothly for your task.
