Talk Proposal: Development Containers or how not to lose your mind working on multiple projects
- Development Containers or how not to lose your mind working on multiple projects (I also like the "multiverse of pet projects" subtitle but its a little less informative)
- Length: 15-20 minutes
- Links: (WIP slides)
- **Which dates: After October 21, 2024, my calendar is open
As a person who works on multiple projects at work and starts a new pet project every other month, I wanted to share how development containers make it easy for me to manage the infrastructure and dependency setup for all my projects. I'll show you how to set up new DB instances, language dependencies, and frameworks in a couple of minutes while keeping your host machine clean.
I'll demo how to add a dev container to an existing project, share a project with a colleague and use a dev container in Github codespaces.
The presentation would be light on slides, and I won't go into what containers are, how they differ from VMs, etc. The main focus would be on a quick demo, no live coding.
