Steam Linux issue loading web content.

Open Git-Forked opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Your system information

steam.sh[9739]: Running Steam on manjarolinux 21.2.3 64-bit steam.sh[9739]: STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically setup.sh[9812]: Steam runtime environment up-to-date! steam.sh[9739]: Steam client's requirements are satisfied

Steam web content not loading on first attempt, getting only a blank page. Going back to the previous and clicking the web content again a second time yields the web content. Overcome-able but nonetheless very annoying.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Load steam (on Linux, specifically Manjaro perhaps?)
  2. Go to Library (or elsewhere)
  3. Click a link that loads in the steam browser, for example Discussions

What should happen:

  • Content should load in the built in steam web browser the first try, like it used to.

What does happen:

  • Content does not load the first try.
  • Must go back and click the link a second time to get the content to load.

This happens on Wayland, and possibly also on x.org. It's been so long that I can't remember exactly. That might be useful information in and of itself, like, this issue has existed for years, it might even actually have always existed since day one of steam on Linux. The issue exists on AMD drivers. The issue exists definitely on Arch Linux, and possibly also Ubuntu/Mint. The issue exists regardless of whether the "get Dota2 to work" hack is used or not (VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.i686.json:/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json steam ) The issue exists in Native Steam and Runtime Steam.

Sometimes it's not such a bad problem, maybe a second or two glitch. Sometimes it fully locks up Steam for many many seconds. (Actually that last bit is a different problem, I'm conflating the GUI glitches and the website loading glitches because they "feel" similar, and have both existed for roughly the same amount of time) The better description is; sometimes going to another "tab" and back will fix the loading, but sometimes doing that will lock up Steam for a while. Usually the one I go back to is "Library" because I know that that doesn't really need to "load" like the web based parts of Steam.

I have found issues with the built-in browser with Steam being unable to correctly render the pages when using the Steam Overlay browser while playing games.

For example if I'm playing a game like Team Fortress 2 and then I click on a link in-game to view someone's Steam Profile, the web browser seems to be unable to properly render the page of that profile you're trying to look at. It'll partially render the page but you won't actually see anything on the page, you'll see things like dynamic backgrounds if there's one on the user's profile, but that will just cover the entire area. Scrollbars are not visible, but hovering mouse over things on the page will show that you can still click things, just you won't actually be able to see WHAT you're actually clicking on. If I resize the browser window it seems to fix the issue but only temporarily until the next time I launch the game.
