Can't insert a pound sign (£) into password field for Steam Login
Your system information
- Steam client version:1.0.0.53-1
- Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Arch
- Opted into Steam client beta?: No
- Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Attempted to log in to a Steam account using a password that contains a pound symbol (£). Attempting to insert the symbol with Shift+3 does not work. Copying it from another application and pasting it does not work. In both cases, no symbol appears.
Pasting multiple symbols one of which is a pound sign, results in only the non-pound-sign characters being pasted.
Copy-paste example
Observe as I copy the text £50 from another program, and paste it into the password field:

I expected 3 characters to be pasted, but only 2 were.
Shift-3 example
Here I have xkbcat (a simple keylogger) running in a terminal window to log key presses, and attempt to write asd"£ into the password field:

Observe how Shift+3 does nothing.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Change Steam password to containing a "£".
- Attempt to log in.
- Observe your failure to log in.
Appologies for the duplicate. I had search but found no results.
For info, previous versions of the linux client did NOT have this issue (or at least seemingly not inside of the last 1.5 years) as I have been using it.
I see this was reviewed, but never scheduled...
For reference, ALL of the originally reported behaviours regarding SHIFT+3 to generate the "£" fail under the client as of 27 November 2019. Prior to this, the linux client WAS accepting this character.
As a heads up, the steam website itself now blocks you from using £ in a password.

The modern Steam login UI allows inserting £
