X11 steamwebhelper crashes unless env XCURSOR_THEME=adwaita

i have had this persistent issue on non-flatpak versions of steam where i can sign in, but once in, the webhelper just closes and restarts infinitely.

the two specific cases are on KDE w/ X11, on arch linux or debian 12/13 using the system packages for steam.

i just discovered that for whatever reason if i forcibly set it to adwaita (just having it as a global variable makes no difference, same with adding it to the .desktop shortcut) it fixes this issue. starting steam through the terminal is obviously not a permanent fix however.

i have tested both debian 13 and arch w/ kde and an X11 session.

steps to reproduce: use any xcursor theme that isn't adwaita on KDE X11

supposedly it was seen here but maybe never reported.

forcibly setting the global cursor to adwaita also does not fix the behavior. the only way to get it to stay open that i can find is the command in the title.

for now, i'll just run steam from screen so i can detach my terminal.
