Cannot disable GPU accelerated rendering in web views

Open ztx-lyghters opened this issue 7 months ago • 2 comments

System information

  • Steam client version (build number): 1745876290 (Stable)

  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): Void Linux (i3wm) / Gentoo (i3wm)

  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No

  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes

  • Steam Logs: steam-logs.tar.gz

  • GPU: AMD RX6700 (amdgpu)

Issue:

I'm unable to disable "GPU accelerated rendering in web views" in settings. The reason I want to do this is due to #10887. However, when I turn the setting off and restart the Steam client, the setting remains on. I'm having both this problem and #10887 since the Steam client GUI overhaul update

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Launch Steam client
  2. Turn off the setting
  3. Restart the client (in any way)
  4. Witness the setting still being turned on

Obviously, I'm expecting other people not to be able to reproduce it, since I couldn't find any issue related to this problem, but I don't really know what else to suggest, aside from installing one of the distros I have used.

I am having the opposite problem recently that might be related, I can't enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views. I am on archlinux with the latest packages, including nvidia-open drivers. I tried switching to steam beta and switching to the AURs nvidia-open-beta drivers but the issue persists.

Same, running beta opt-in with Arch and i3wm.

I can fix the trying to disable it due to the same issue with steam freezing. Being in i3, I can use a hotkey to fullscreen and un-fullscreen steam. Doing this toggle undoes the freeze without restarting steam. Noticed this freeze coming back, seemingly on both (native) and other version of steam. Unable to disable GPU accel on either version.

Also unable to find a config file option to change this.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/10887#issuecomment-2871509099 seems to be another valid workaround though.

This would be useful for DG2 cards on xe related: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/xe/kernel/-/issues/234
