Seeing the same on my system (Arch Linux) with an RTX 3070. Beta client has HEVC and AV1 decode options greyed out while they're toggle-able on the main client

Fixed in today's beta

can confirm, fixed in the latest beta

edit: doesn't seem to be fully fixed. My hardware (RTX 3070) supports AV1 decode (no encode) but the option is still greyed out image

Same, in Stable and Beta (as of 3/14/2025). AV1 is grayed out. I have a 4070 and could previously stream Remote Play with AV1.

Still happening with stable, AV1 grayed out with 4080 and could previously use it

AV1 is still disabled on the 4/7/2025 beta with Radeon RX 7800 XT. I don't think it's a hardware issue, since Sunshine/Moonlight can stream using the AV1 codec perfectly.

Still happening with latest stable version. (RTX 4080)

Also, just dropping it here: Steam on windows works fine on same pc, AV1 can be enabled and just works just perfectly. AV1 content can be played perfectly on both system. Feels like someone just decided that no AV1 for Linux. Maybe, Steam Deck is not powerful enough to utilize AV1 as good as HEVC or something, so someone decided just gray it for all Linux machines...

Valve, Linux community are here, we are willing to help you if issue is something more than lazy #define noav1. Valve, please, enable it in steam beta, so we can test it and point if something is wrong or describe what stopping you from enabling it, someone surely will help you make Steam a better place for everyone.

6950XT, I don't even have the options for HEVC and AV1? I'm on Bazzite OS desktop mode, host options are available but no encoding toggles.

Intel Arc A380, Bazzite 43 (bazzite-deck image): AV1 is disabled on my Intel Arc card. I have the option for HVEC. My settings look like @Sid127's.

9070 XT, 7840U (RDNA 3.5) and steam deck here. All lack the option to turn on AV1 on the client side + my PC and laptop (both support AV1 encode) lack the option to encode with AV1
