Hello @logslmao, if you completely close Steam, then run steam or steam -cef-disable-gpu from a terminal, does that have an effect?

Possible duplicate of #10935.

Nope, they all do the same thing

logslmao avatar Jun 15 '24 04:06 logslmao

Also, im using x11 if that helps!

Have the same problem, Ubuntu 22.04.4, Nvidia RTX 3060, driver 535, using X11. Workaround in #10935 of entering big picture with steam -gamepadui then exiting works.

Workaround steam -clearbeta still results in white windows.

Logs in terminal:

Entering big picture mode worked for me. thanks mount2010 👍

Uh, this may need a reopen. The base issue of "steam only opens to white flashing window" is still there. Entering big picture mode is only a workaround. @logslmao

Yeah, after restarting my computer it no longer works

logslmao avatar Jun 16 '24 03:06 logslmao

And now the flatpak version stopped working

logslmao avatar Jun 19 '24 10:06 logslmao

I'm on the deb version by the way

mount2010 avatar Jun 19 '24 12:06 mount2010

hm can you try the snap version ? and can you mesa -Q and kernel tnx.

I have the same thing. I think it has something to do with the GPU in a recent update somewhere. I find this in the logs:

~/.steam/steam/logs/webhelper-linux.txt: [0619/233156.155279:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(991)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=133 [0619/233156.155314:WARNING:gpu_process_host.cc(1338)] The GPU process has crashed 3 time(s) [0619/233156.155331:FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(440)] GPU process isn't usable. Goodbye.

Starting up big picture mode and then exiting worked for me too. But starting up steam normally results in the white screen showing then crashing, which I assume is the steam webhelper. I can start up games from the tray icon, but steam's white screen keeps flashing in front of my game. Sometimes it does start up steam after failing for a while

For me it even gets worse, my system (Arch Linux, Wayland, Nvidia on beta 555 driver) hangs entirely after seeing the white windows for a couple of seconds.

Bug is still present. Not fixed on Nvidia Drivers 550.

mount2010 avatar Sep 11 '24 23:09 mount2010

This bug is now fixed on my system. @logslmao check

I lost my pc because i... took it apart and i'm getting it fixed, it works for me on my laptop with nvidia drivers and it has ever since i installed arch linux, and before that debian.
