Your system information

  • unable to find, as steam crashes before i can access anything.

  • arch-latest

  • Yes

  • Yes steam-logs.tar.gz

  • GPU: Nvidia

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large code pastes as a Github Gist I expected steam to boot up with hardware acceleration and boots in big picture mode. It boots up for approx 2-3 seconds, and then crashes.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. enable start in big picture mode
  2. enable hardware acceleration
  3. reboot steam.

For me, on Arch Linux with AMD GPU, without hardware acceleration enabled, big picture mode loads but is slow.

With hardware acceleration enabled it does load, but sometimes exiting from big picture mode crashes Steam.

And when hardware acceleration is enabled and I am in desktop mode, closing the main steam window (while Steam is still running in tray) shows the "app is not responding" window offering to kill steam. It kills the main window and then it loads up again. So when hardware acceleration is enabled, I can't close the main window, I have to keep it minimized.

Tested on Gnome with Wayland.
