Bad audio after running portal 2 for several hours

I left portal 2 running overnight, the first few chambers after I started this morning were fine, but then the audio became a stuttering buzzing sound that changed tone and became louder over time. There was a delay before the buzzing in which no sound could be heard. The first level had this happen was a Workshop level made in hammer. It was called Stasis 1

While playing the singleplayer campaign I have noticed some sound distorion after playing the game for ~30 minutes, this might be the same issue as Yours. At first I thought I were just getting sinusitis again but having seen this bug report I think there is actually something wrong with the sound volume.

I think it's related, maybe even a duplicate of #88

could be an issue with pulseaudio - I've experienced this before, but with audio playback on music/media players and heavy load on the cpu

I run a straight alsa setup, so it's not a pulse bug.

Had this in Hotline Miami, left it running for almost a day (stuck in a particular phase and didn't want to start from the level beginning), when I got home the next day the sound was choppy and crackling. The same applies to the Steam client itself, its notification sounds become choppy overtime. I also don't use PulseAudio and at least Steam issue was there from the very beginning. Probably an ALSA bug that causes underruns. I'll report this to the Steam issue tracker.
