Seeing pretty much 1 CPU core being used

Open sinatosk opened this issue 11 years ago • 3 comments

When I was playing Portal 2 on Windows 7 SP1 ( don't have, don't use anymore or have installed ), I noticed it a lot of my CPU cores were being used during game play

here on Linux... it's pretty much just 1 core even though the multicore option is enabled...

I'm getting about 100-300 fps average but Windows it was 200-300 average

hardware hasn't changed in that time

my system information is at http://pastebin.com/XCseV9b0

I see an average of ~140% cpu usage, 1.4 cores on mine with multicore enabled.

yeah I'm seeing around ~22%

Not saying Valve should use more CPU... that's a waste of clock cycles and electricity but I do remember Windows usage was higher... I think ~40% / ~45% if I remember right...

Maybe Direct3D has just that much more overhead than OpenGL...

Oh well, game is playable and good fps... I do remember higher fps average on Windows
