Portal 2 locks up PC

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. start PC using SteamOS HDD
2. In Big picture mode start Portal 2. Continue game at last saved point
3. Move and play game using usb connected mouse
4. PC goes into endless sound loop and freezes. Keyboard is locked must hold start button to restart PC.
5. After restart start Portal 2. Continue game at last saved point
6. Use Steam controller (connected by usb cable) not mouse to move and play game everything is OK. No lock up no endless sound loop.
7. Change from Steam controller to mouse for movement etc. after a few seconds PC freezes endless sound loop etc. have reproduced over and over.

Hello @frostysnowman2, what model keyboard and mouse are you using?

Does numlock work after the game freezes?

Keyboard is HP PS2 standard orig. equip old the mouse is usb Steelseries SENSI 310 new. Num Lock light goes on Esc key is dead and all the F key combos are also not functioning. I am able to still use the Steam controllers Steam button to escape to menu were I can end Portal 2. If I dont do that I have to restart using PC button

Taking a guess here, this may be related to the 1000 hz refresh rate of the mouse interacting with the game-bundled libSDL2. There is another report of quirky behavior with this mouse model.
