Freezing & sound loop in Portal 2 on Ubuntu 16.04

Hello. I have viewed this issue, and added the repository (and did an upgrade & rebooted my PC), and am still experiencing issues.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, nothing fancy, I just installed it 2 days ago, so I seriously doubt that I somehow f'ed it up. I am using an i7 with integrated graphics (my laptop, just the standard stuff), so it's not particularly strange hardware either

Hello @atoms118, please copy your system information from steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

I've tried to launch Portal or Portal 2 with NVidia graphics, it worked very good, so the game freezes only with integrated Intel graphics.

Does dmesg have anything interesting around the time Portal 2 freezes?

Sorry this took so long; here's the output from dmesg

Sounds like the links you gave are probably the issue

Is this an issue that is going to get fixed by Valve? I've read the bug report, and it seems that it isn't entirely mesa's fault... I just don't see compiling the latest mesa as a viable fix for this
