unable to bind " \ " key

I am using a standard mechanical keyboard QWERTY-UK layout - win7 language: english (UK)

I cant bind a command to "", i've had to use a re-routing program to replace my \ key with another key so it can be bound in half-life. it would be nice to be able to use this key

What happens if you use a different keyboard?

tested a different keyboard and the same problem - the game recognizes the key (i can type \ in console or in chat) but when i bind a command to this key, the command isn't executed

when i assign " \ " to a keyboard command ( eg. move left ) in options, it recognized the key has been pressed, but it doesn't display the key and the bind doesn't work

Would be nice if the "<" was working, it's located between LSHIFT and Z on my QWERTY-SWE layout. This key is bindable in Doom <: but not it goldsrc :c
