Feat. Req. Enable Gamescope Resolution Override For Non Steam Games
An update to SteamOS in the beginning of June added the ability to change a games maximum resolution for gamescope in it's preferences menu. It appears that this is only for Steam bought titles. Is there any way this feature can be added for non Steam titles? I've one game, so far, whose default resolution is far below gamescopes resolution leading the game to be displayed in a small window in the centre of the screen. It'll be good to be able to adjust the gamescope resolution to match, or be nearer, the games resolution so it is physically displayed across more of the screen (scaling?).
A possible workaround for this issue may be possible by configuring the steam shortcut to your game. Instead of pointing it towards your game executable or .desktop shortcut, you'd point it to gamescope directly, passing in necessary parameters (like -U for FSR upscaling) before pointing it to the executable or shortcut. As an example, running a lutris game the commandline might look something like this:
LUTRIS_SKIP_INIT=1 gamescope -U lutris lutris:rungameid/4
... Note that this may not be the correct forum for this issue, since it seems to be more of a Steam client specific feature request, rather than something to fix within gamescope itself.
