CSGO doesn't launch unless I delete or move csgo/panorama/videos
Your system information
- System information from steam (

) in a gist: https://gist.github.com/duckyondiscord/642401df78742282a5cc2b00c24a6c06 - Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large pastes as a Github Gist.
What should happen: Game launches normally, with all game files present as downloaded by Steam.
What does happen: Game gets stuck on a black screen on launch unless I delete or move $GAMEDIR/csgo/panorama/videos
No point in submitting a screenshot, since it just displays a black screen.
Another detail: Only Arch-based distributions seem to have this, haven't experienced it on Debian and its derivatives.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Download the game from Steam.
- Launch it.
Hello @duckyondiscord, does this still happen if you configure the game to run in the SteamLinuxRuntime container? (Properties -> Compatibility -> Force use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool -> Steam Linux Runtime)
@kisak-valve and @duckyondiscord Sorry for the ping. I think this issue is a duplicate of my issue- https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/2998
@prorounak2005 you might want to try my suggestion above also.

No, it's not a duplicate, the game doesn't crash here, it just gets stuck on a black screen.

I have no idea what happened, didn't do what you said btw, but the issue just randomly fixed itself, should I close the issue now?

It just un-fixed itself, but I'm gonna try Steam Linux Runtime

Sorry for the late reply. I tried to run csgo native today and it doesn't even launch. It shows a blank window and then crashes.

yes, that is an issue for me and everyone I know on Linux too, the only way I could get around that it by using the Steam flatpak

Yup!! The problem persists. If you go to protondb.com , people are having the same problem. The only way I can play csgo is through the workaround mentioned in my issue - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/2998
Haven't tried flatpak because I am very lazy but I will give it a try.

Our problems certainly look quite similar, but I don't think they're the same since the game doesn't crash for me, it just hangs.
It worked with moving the videos
folder for me!
Then i wondered, if the -novid
launch option was sufficient, so i moved the videos
folder back in place and added that and voilá - it worked!

Doesn't work with just -novid
for me sadly, that only removes the intro screen and it seems that I need to remove everything for it to work
