Nicknames revealed to strangers in party invitation message

Your system information

Note: I am using Linux but this issue is platform independent (we've verified it also on windows).

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When inviting someone to a party in csgo, it shows a message to all members of that party (<inviter> invited <invitee>). If a party member has set a nickname for the invited person, he will see that nickname, regardless if the inviter has set a nickname for that person or not. However, if the party member has not set a nickname but the inviter has set one, the party member will see that nickname instead of the public profile name.

This is problematic since nicknames are often set to the persons real name or some other sensitive designation that should not be shared with strangers. They should only be visible to the person that has set the nickname and not be transmitted.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Set a nickname for a person on steam.
  2. Create a party with a member that has not set a nickname for that person
  3. Invite the person
  4. The party members can see the nickname
