Freeze after expand in update 1/20/2021 on macOS
- System information from steam in a gist:
- Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
Hi! After update 1/20/2021 the game totally freezes after collapsing and expanding. If you are in game menu this issue is not existing. But if you are in game - 100 % freeze.
MacOS Catalina, Macbook Pro 16-inch 2019, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Open game
- Load any map
- Collapse (minimize, cmd + tab)
- Expand (maximize)
- Freeze
I have the exact same problem. Also on Catalina. Macbook Pro 16 2017
Also, now during the game, everything began to slow down a little, as if there was not enough performance. Ping and fps are good
Hello, I have the same problem on OSX 10.15.7 after the latest Cs:go update (01/21/2021). I have a Macbook Pro 16" 2019 I already sent a message to Steam support.
Just updated the system to Big Sur (11.1). The same situation
I'm having this same problem but with MacOS High Sierra

@Millenniobra Don't forget to "thumb up" the first message so they can be aware of the issue :)
Got the same problem hope they will fix it soon
I don't seem to have the problem anymore after yesterdays update. Maybe it's been fixed.

Unfortunately, after update 1/28/2021 the problem still exists
Issue still exists after today's update https://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2021/01/32725/ on 1/28.
Yea the crash came back for me after the latest update (1/28).
Same problem, latest update installed
OS X Big Sur / iMac 2019
Same for me. Also, before that I was able to switch between workspaces using trackpad. Now I can't.
Issue still exists for me.
Hello, The problem still exists after 3 months… Any news of a potential update to fix it?
CS Go is unplayable with even low settings on latest MB pro 16. Bury this piece of crap
If Valve could fix the issue, they would have already done that. It seems that it's too difficult for Valve employees to fix -- and that's okay, not everyone is an amazing rockstar programmer. That, or MacOS is not a priority platform and you should game on Windows. Either way, stop nagging them. Show some respect.
this is a huge pain..
6/6/2021, still having the same problem, did anyone solve it yet? pls help me. and I don't even understand this is csgo setting problem or my computer problem?
Omg, I had tried deleted every file of csgo and deleted steam, and then redownlaod everything but still having this problem.
Oh, I just found something interesting, I have this problem on my Mac too. but I tried the same thing on same Mac but different csgo account, and then the problem is gone. so this cmd + tab problem only happen on my main account, the problem is game account setting but not Mac.
Ever since I upgraded my MacOS to Catalina, whenever I alt tab, the game will freeze and I have to force shut down. However it doesnt happens everytime, but more than 60% of the time it will happen.
Catalina 10.15.7 iMac Retina 5K, 27" 2017 4.2GHz i7 40GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
CSGO playing in 4:3 (Windowed Full Screen) 1280x1024
Here are the things I tried to isolate which doesnt help so far
- Change to 16:9
- Change to Full Screen
- Ensure no other software running
- disable all launch options
- verify game files
- reinstall game
- I do have 2 CSGO accounts and both having same issues

I had fix this, all you need to do is make a alt account and copy the alt account cfg. to your main account. The problem is in CSGO not in Mac.

finally got the time to test this after @FelixKing1313's help.
I fully uninstalled csgo from my mac, clear all related files in the folders (so my mac is full clear from csgo) Sign up new steam a/c, reinstall csgo, same thing still happens. and of coz this only happens when in map, it doesnt happen when i'm in main menu. :(
kinda not sure what other ways I can do to solve the issue.
I'm facing the same issue in a M1 Macbook Air running Big Sur 11.4. Things I noticed:
- The game only freezes if I'm in a map.
- Whenever I switch to another window and get back the game alternates between windowed mode and fullscreen 3 or 4 times and then stabilizes. Then, if I was in menu everything works fine. Otherwise it freezes.
- If I check the option "Show FPS" on Steam, it shows an average FPS of 16 while the game is frozen.
I just tested change to Windowed, and alt tab seems fine. But that sucks for me as I'm used to 4:3 stretched (fullscreen windows) and when playing windowed, input lag is quite obvious
Just fixed for me. Thx valve.
Just fixed for me. Thx valve. mind sharing?
mind sharing?
I have nothing to share. I don't think I did anything. Well, I changed my crosshair and added a bind for "deathcry", but those probably aren't related, unless it caused a refresh of a bad config?
I accidentally Cmd-Tab-ed out, and when I came back in the game wasn't frozen. At first I suspected it was through having the settings menu open in game when switching focus, but it seems to just work all the time now. There's no sound from CS if it's not focussed, but that happened intermittently before the freezing issue too.
I changed my configuration to "FullScreen Windowed" and the problem was apparently solved. I can't say much about input lag since I'm not that good to notice it.
I tried a reaction time map (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=213240871) in both "Fullscreen" mode and "Fullscreen Windowed" mode and didn't notice any change (I'm equally bad at both configurations, and can score about 60% of the shots at 30ms).
Maybe a better player could do some comparison between both modes to see if input lag is a thing while playing in Fullscreen Windowed.
