[BUG] View projection is permanently skewed after switching to "legacy reprojection"
Describe the bug Switching to "legacy reprojection" causes the view projection to be skewed, resulting in a somehwat flattened depth perception and wrong perceived distances. The problem becomes especially apparent when interacting with hand-attached menus where the menu appears to morph into trapezoid shapes when rotating the controller.
Switching back to the normal reprojection mode does not fix the issue. The projection remains skewed until the end of the game session.
The SteamVR overlay does not appear to be affected.
Switching to "legacy reprojection" and back temporarily fixes certain flickering issues with normal reprojection. Unfortunately, this workaround is rendered unusable due to the aforementioned projection issue.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Enter a VR title, e.g. VRChat
- Observe your surroundings. Take note of the apparent size and distance of nearby objects.
- Open the SteamVR overlay
- Navigate to "video settings"
- Enable "legacy reprojection"
- Return to the game
- Observe that the apparent size and distance of the objects you just observed has changed.
Expected behavior Enabling "legacy reprojection" should not affect the perception of heights and distances. At the very least, SteamVR should return to the correct projection once "legacy reprojection" is disabled.
