Additional context Add any other context about the problem here. I'm dualbooting with another distro, but I don't think I'd cause an issue, since when I had Mint by itself everything was fine.

Having the same issue, also on Linux Mint. Mine is version 22.1, using a Valve Index

After some testing, I think the issue resides somewhere in either how SteamVR deals with Cinnamon, or Cinnamon itself. No idea how to test or look from there, but judging by the fact that both of us are having issues on Linux Mint, and I've had different results with other DEs, that's where the issue comes from. My hypothesis, at least

EDIT: Additionally, on Cinnamon, it seems like you're unable to open the desktop view more than once. It works fine the first time, but switching views or moving the desktop view somewhere else breaks it permenantly until SteamVR is booted again.

I was correct! It's definitely an issue with Cinnamon.

For now, I just found a temporary fix in installing and using XFCE as your desktop environment when using VR. It's not as pretty and it's not a seamless transition, but it doesn't have this issue, it's easy to install, and it just works. At least until this issue can get sorted out, it will have to do.

Okay, I'll give it a shot

Small update - MATE appears to also suffer from this bug, at least from my testing. Whatever's causing this seems to exist both in Cinnamon and MATE desktop environments, but not XFCE. Hope this may help

XFCE is still doing this for me, fresh install

I saw the update today, I'll retest once I get a chance

Unable to resolve as of yet, getting steam[46993]: LHR-2C08C943: IMU thread: Unknown USB report ID 37 (vid 28de pid 2000). as well as steamVR can't seems to recognise my headset no more. I launched steam through console with launch option -compat-force-slr off

Markosha2004 avatar May 07 '25 10:05 Markosha2004

Quick update,

Got it to work but this time w/o launch options. Unfortunately this still occurs on Mint Cinammon. I'll test this on xfce as well

I'll attach runtime diag and other stuff to this message

runtime_diag_mint_7_may.tar.gz steam-logs.tar.gz steam-minidumps.tar.gz

Edit: I should note that all this was done on fresh install of Mint 22 Cinnamon distribution

Just want to chime in that I'm experiencing this behavior on Fedora 42 with Plasma Wayland. This appears to be a regression in 2.10 and from my limited testing occurs very consistently within 2 minutes or so of launching an app.

Yeah you might wanna drop some data for them to pin point the issue

I saw the update 2.10.4, I'll retest soon

Markosha2004 avatar May 09 '25 09:05 Markosha2004
