Your system information

  • Steam client version: no clue [whatever is current at the time of this writing]
  • SteamOS version: [whatever is current at the time of this writing]
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [Yes/No] No
  • Opted into SteamOS beta?: [Yes/No] Yes?
  • Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: [Yes/No] I cant get into the system settings to do it

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. So I am trying to finish the setup of steam os. I do not have access to ethernet so i use a wifi adapter. I know that the wifi adapter works i can run wifi on windows. I read somewhere that the Network-manager service doesn't start on boot. When I boot to recovery shell I can run the network-manager service manually, but I can't start it automatically because chkconfig command apparently doesn't exist. The only way I can see to start the service at boot is to use the chkconfig command but considering it doesn't exist... yeah, kind of hard to run it. I can't run steamos if I can't get past the checking for updates boot-screen. I can't set up the wifi properly without having access to the full os.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Disconnect ethernet cable
  2. Insert wifi adapter
  3. fresh install steamos alongside windows 10
  4. start it up
  5. good luck
  6. restart in recovery mode
  7. run sudo service network-manager start
