[Suggestion] integrate Alien dalvik into Steam OS and create something similar to Direct Storage and Quick resume.
Hello, first of all thanks for the Amazing work on Steam OS. Since the steam deck will feature a touchscreen display and will lack most media apps in a convenient way, like most other consoles do, I would suggest to add android support via alien dalvik, so experienced users can sideload android TV applications and steam OS can differentiate from other Linux Distributions. Myriad sells their software to OEMs and service providers. A similar feature to Direct storage, would also come in handy, since the steam deck will feature a NVME drive and a similar GPU as the Series X. Quick resume would also be a possibility, to further improve the console.
Umm... as far as I know, direct storage is similar to GPUDirect for Nvidia and StoreMI for AMD, but direct storage is obviously completely proprietary and the details as to what it exactly does is obviously IP. direct storage won't be supported until windows 11 anyway. I don't use windoze at all, so... I could be wrong. I am not sure that this is applicable for the steam deck as it will be using a customized APU and not all units will have a NVME. I would still love to see side loading android applications!! :D
Suspend and Resume was one of the biggest hurdles for the dev team to have taken on (see youtube interviews). If plagman (Pierre-Loup Griffais) says it works, I believe him.
Anbox sounds more like something that would run as an external app in steamos.
Anyway, keep the ideas coming ;-).
A solution might be Waydroid.
